“Throughout Lithuania, we would not find any other event that could compare to the Sea Festival. It is unique and unlike anything else – it is inspired by the sea, the freedom and opportunities it provides, the ships constantly striving towards the horizon, the people of the sea, the port. The Sea Festival unites us every year and invites us to feel its unique maritime spirit, to cherish and preserve these traditions,” says Algis Latakas, the patron of the parade and head of Klaipėda Port.

Throughout Lithuania, we would not find any other event that could compare to the Sea Festival. It is unique and unlike anything else – it is inspired by the sea, the freedom and opportunities it provides, the ships constantly striving towards the horizon, the people of the sea, the port.

This year’s parade featured more than 70 collectives and, according to organizers, nearly 7,000 participants. The main theme “Like in a Movie” was reflected not only in the participants’ costumes but also in artistic compositions specially prepared for the parade.

The impressive carnival-like parade invited participants on a memorable journey through the world of famous film characters, scenes, and episodes.

The patron of the festival – the Port Authority – celebrating its 35th birthday this year, created a birthday celebration film during the parade. The moving platform became a live film set – the filmmaking process took place in real-time, and spectators could witness the ongoing creative process and become a part of it.

This parade is unimaginable without sailors, captains, and orchestras.

“When President Antanas Smetona initiated the Sea Festival, the goal was to show Lithuania the sea. And the sea is inseparable from ships, the port, and the people who work there. Therefore, today I cannot imagine the Sea Festival without the parade of sailors, uniforms, orchestras, captains, and the entire maritime community,” said A. Latakas, recalling the origins of the Sea Festival.

After the parade brought the Sea Festival to the city, the opening of the festival was announced at the Cruise Ship Terminal.
