In total, over 10,000 residents have been evacuated in recent days across the Madrid region, where several forest fires are raging simultaneously.
Spanish officials issued evacuation orders early Thursday morning for 3,500 residents of Aldea de Fresno, located about 60 kilometers from Madrid.
The fire that broke out in Avila on Thursday is spreading uncontrollably. According to Spanish media, residents of the municipalities of Burgohondo, El Tiemblo, and Navaluenga have been instructed to stay indoors.
In addition, the newspaper “El Pais” reported that 1,500 people were evacuated from a rural tourism complex and a residential area in El Tiemblo due to rapidly approaching flames.

The largest fire is raging on the other side of Madrid, in the province of Guadalajara, about 100 kilometers north of the capital. Since last Thursday, it has destroyed 32,000 hectares of forest.
“The government has deployed all available resources to stop the terrible fires currently devastating many areas: Avila, Leon, Toledo, Madrid, and other parts of Spain,” Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez (Pedras Sančesas) wrote earlier on the social network “X”, urging the public to be extremely careful and follow officials’ instructions.
According to the European Forest Fire Information System (EFFIS), almost 125,000 hectares of forest have already burned in Spain this year, compared to 393,000 hectares throughout last year.
