According to Aušra, she has been suffering from heart conduction disorders for many years and has had to be hospitalized for surgery multiple times.
After one of them, 6 years ago, the woman experienced arterial bleeding, which significantly frightened not only her but also the medical staff.
Aušra, who visited the hospital again this week, was surprised to hear that after the same operation, doctors intended to discharge her home on the same day.
Recalling the recent terrible experience, the compatriot decided it would be safer to stay in the hospital overnight at her own expense.
However, according to the woman, this overnight stay was not as pleasant as she had hoped. Aušra described her experience in detail on Facebook and agreed to share it with 15min readers:

Anyway, to feel calmer after a day procedure at the inpatient facility, I stayed overnight yesterday.
Before that, I asked the head nurse: “Although I’m paying for accommodation and food, if what the professor mentioned happens to me, will I receive medical help?”
“Yes, contact the staff,” said the wonderful head nurse.
As night approached, the adventures began…
I wanted to charge my phone, but due to movement restrictions, I dropped the charger right under the bed.
I press the help button.
I apologize that I’m a legless Freddy, I can’t reach under the bed myself to get the cable, and that my head hurts terribly – maybe she would be so kind as to measure my blood pressure after the operation?
From the annoyed nurse comes the explanation that I have paid ONLY for accommodation, not medical services.
“Like in a hotel? But the senior one said that in case of trouble, I can contact the staff…” – I say.
Hmm, the answer was a grimace.
“So what should I do now?” – I ask, because this isn’t some “Hilton” and there are no valets for tips.
Finally, completely annoyed, she pulls out my charger and even measures my blood pressure (which I didn’t expect at all anymore).
I breathed a sigh of relief.
I was already getting ready to sleep, settled in like Mr. Bean in my little bed and… damn, I realize something is wrong!
My bed’s headrest isn’t lowered, and I’m not lying down, I’m sitting!
Oh Lord, oh Lordy! I can’t call for help anymore… I crawl out of bed, look for how to lower that end – I can’t find it and realize that such a task is not yet within my strength.
At first, I tried to doze off sitting up, but it was impossible. I clearly realize that I’ll have to call again.
I say all my prayers that while being in the “hotel,” I wouldn’t need medical help anymore…
I press the remote, because I tried to go to the nurses’ room, but I didn’t have enough strength.
I sit, not breathing. The door opens with the question: “WHAT IS IT AGAIN???”
It seems to me that instead of one angry nurse, there are now two…
“Aaaa, I’m very sorry, very… I didn’t want to call you at all, because I know this isn’t the service, but I can’t really sleep sitting up…” – I stammer.
Again, I listen to a lecture about the overnight stay.
“I won’t call them again until morning for anything!” – I swear to myself.
I fall asleep. And I wake up precisely because of what my professor warned me about…
I lie there, thinking – it will pass. It doesn’t pass. I press the button again.
Bang, the light turns on and the door swings open: “WHAT IS IT NOW AGAIN???”
“I didn’t want to call you at all, not at all! But this kind of trouble has befallen me…” – I say.
“You have paid ONLY for ACCOMMODATION, providing medical assistance is not our responsibility. I don’t know if the doctor will come, because you are only staying overnight,” – declares the nurse.
“So what should I do? I’m lying in a hospital and I have to call an ambulance to the ward? If that’s what’s needed – I can,” – I say.
“I’ll tell the doctor, but he doesn’t have to come and I don’t know if he will,” – she said and left.
Well, it seems I might even have to heroically die in the hospital now without medical help.
After a while, a young, pleasant, caring doctor (“the good policeman”) appeared.
He examined everything, explained, told me to take my own medication, and again, but very kindly added the same litany about the overnight stay: that in the hospital I am not a patient, but merely a sleeping hotel guest who, if needing help from the ward, should be transported directly to the emergency department…
Upon returning home, I opened the hospital rules.
It was written in black and white: paid accommodation covers ONLY accommodation needs, and treatment services are not provided during the overnight stay.
This means you’re lying in a hospital ward after surgery because you wanted to feel safer, but legally you’re just an annoying hotel guest bothering the staff!
Therefore, I believe that the price list should include additional urgent medical (who knows who might need them and when) and service (e.g., nurse’s assistance) services, an extra doctor’s call-out, and of course, ones like mine:
