For some time now, the woman has been openly showing her exhausting routine on her social networks – she is forced to patrol her yard area for invasive slugs both in the mornings and evenings. However, the financial side of this battle is the most surprising. Indrė revealed that she has to spend a considerable sum daily on various extermination measures.

Although followers advised the woman to apply for state compensation, I. Bareikienė encountered bureaucratic obstacles – it turned out that the application period had long ended. This prompted the well-known woman to speak about a broader problem: shouldn’t the state seek systemic solutions instead of leaving residents to fight this invasive species alone?
Despite the exhausting situation, I. Bareikienė does not lose her sense of humor. She described the entire situation in detail and with a smile on her “Instagram” account, and agreed to share the post with Žmonės.lt readers.
“In recent days, I’ve been sharing my fight against invasive slugs. And the more I show, the more I realize that this is not just my problem. I’ve received hundreds of your messages. Many wrote that it’s possible to fill out an application for compensation. I inquired. Unfortunately, I received an answer that the application deadline has already passed – they were only accepted until April. And now let’s calculate. I spend more than 100 euros daily on granules, salt, and other measures alone. I patrol the area in the morning. In the evening – again. And so every day. But the biggest problem is that they come from the surrounding meadows, so the fight seems almost endless.
And then the question arises – if this is truly an invasive species and the problem has affected so many people, shouldn’t broader solutions be sought? Because it seems that we are fighting the consequences individually, not the problem itself.
And for now… a new entry on my resume – invasive slug observer. Working hours – morning and evening. Salary – zero. Expenses – mine. Sounds really sluggy…

In the comments section, I. Bareikienė received many comments with advice.
“A simple remedy that helped me reduce them in Denmark, because they were getting into the greenhouse – pour beer into a container, place it somewhere away from the house, and they all crawl in there and drown. Try it,” one woman wrote.
“Neither beer, nor salt, nor sticks, nor traps will help. In Denmark, this problem has been ‘tormenting’ people for many years, the only effective way to destroy them is to cut the slugs in half, although it seems like an impossible mission, but it is currently the most effective according to the Danes,” another commentator offered a different version.
