To prevent applicants from making mistakes in the last hours of admission, Dr. Justė Rožėnė, director of the Vilnius Tech Admissions and Information Center, shares ten tips.

1. Do not edit the application based on rumors and information in public forums.
On the last day, countless pieces of “reliable information” appear on social networks and groups, claiming that “everyone is applying” somewhere, “scores are rising,” “there will be no places left.” No one, not even higher education institutions, knows the final competitive scores until the end of the admission period. Also, critically evaluate the source providing you with recommendations about important life decisions.
2. What you most want to study should be in the first place.
The system does not “penalize” an ambitious first choice. If you meet the minimum requirements, boldly put your dream program in the first place.
3. Utilize all application opportunities.
Don’t limit yourself to 2-3 choices. If you are interested in several programs or universities, enter more options according to your priorities, as there are certainly alternatives.
4. Order signifies your priorities.
If you are invited to a higher-ranked choice, the system will no longer consider the lower ones. Therefore, do not list “just in case” programs in any order.
5. Don’t take away others’ dreams.
If you honestly answer yourself that you will not sign a study contract after receiving an invitation to study, do not include this program in your application’s wish list. This way, you won’t take away the opportunity from your friend or another person dreaming about this program.
6. If you are considering several programs, choose the one that offers broader opportunities.
Often, a more versatile program allows for later specialization, while a very narrow field can limit choices.
7. Don’t compare yourself to friends.

A friend’s choices are not necessarily suitable for you. Your goals, abilities, and motivation may be completely different.
8. Don’t be fooled by the program name alone.
Programs of the same field in different universities can vary greatly in content, practical experience, partners, and career opportunities. Have you really read the study plan?
9. Don’t forget practical matters.
Dormitory, city, travel, finances, the possibility of combining work and studies – all of this becomes very important after September. Do you really know how you will finance your studies and living expenses if you have to take care of it yourself?
10. Don’t panic.
Every year on the last day, many applicants change their applications several times. Most often, these spontaneous changes are not the best decisions. If you thought about your application a week ago, it is likely still good today. Moreover, you will avoid technical errors in your application that could determine the rest of your study years.
It is important to remember – if you did not get into your desired studies, you can still participate in additional admission stages, as not everyone who received an invitation during the main admission signs study contracts.
This year, the additional admission stage will take place from August 4 to 7 at 12 PM. The second stage of additional admission will take place from August 14–17.
