Both were “detained for several hours without reason, interrogated, and one of them suffered physical violence,” before they managed to return to the embassy, the minister said.
They are now safe and should return to France within a few hours, added J. N. Barrot.
“This attack is even more shocking considering that these two officials oversee our programs aimed at supporting civil society, especially Iranian artists and scientists,” he said.

Currently visiting Iceland, J. N. Barrot said he told his Iranian counterpart Abbas Araghchi that such a “serious and unacceptable” incident “cannot go without consequences.”
J. N. Barrot reiterated last week that European sanctions on Iran will not be lifted until Tehran abandons its nuclear program and what Paris calls destabilizing activities in the region.
As Washington expanded strikes against the Islamic Republic, which, after fragile ceasefires collapsed, were carried out for the ninth consecutive night, Iran declared on Monday that it is fighting a “comprehensive war” with the United States.
