Romanas Steponavičius, a member of the “Baltasis berželis” garden community, who contacted the 15min editorial office, spoke about the “path awaited for 46 years and the flooding plots.” The man raises the question: why did the Kaišiadorys authorities abandon 600 gardeners, most of whom are seniors and residents with the lowest incomes, to their fate?

The first problem troubling the gardeners is the road to the city hospital: instead of a few hundred meters, they are forced to make a 5 km detour.
“From our garden on Aušros tako street to Kaišiadorys hospital, there are only a few hundred meters straight through the forest. Gardeners have been requesting this pedestrian and bicycle path since 1980. We use a beaten forest path, which is illegal – unregulated, not adapted for vehicles to drive on.
Residents are forced to make a 5-kilometer detour by car or bus through Žiežmariai. Those who drive cars on the narrow gravel garden streets raise massive dust clouds, and the attempts by residents to install speed bumps in winter and spring are simply leveled by the municipality’s graders,” Romanas complained.
However, in 2025, according to him, a turning point occurred in this story: the Trakai regional division of the State Forest Enterprise formed an easement and gave official permission to the Kaišiadorys district municipality to prepare a bicycle and pedestrian path through the state forest to the gardens. An agreement was signed with the municipality.

But the Kaišiadorys district authorities, according to the interlocutor, are not preparing the project, stating that it is not a priority.
“The municipality does not respond to multiple inquiries from gardeners about when the project will be completed and the bicycle and pedestrian path will begin to be prepared. The existing forest path cannot be repaired. Permission has been issued to build a new bicycle and pedestrian path,” Romanas emphasized.
Plots are flooding
The second problem troubling the gardeners is the flooding plots over the past two years, destroying property.
