The Russian ambassador to the UN earlier in May stated that Moscow has information that Ukraine plans to launch military drones from Latvia and other Baltic countries, and warned that NATO membership will not protect these states from retaliatory actions.
Moscow ambassador Vasily Nebenzya, speaking at a UN Security Council meeting on security in Ukraine, claimed that Kyiv has already sent Ukrainian drone forces to Latvia, and Russian intelligence can identify the launch sites of such aircraft.
Latvia’s representative to the Security Council Sanita Pavluta-Deslandes dismissed these remarks as “pure fabrication,” and the Latvian Ministry of Foreign Affairs summoned the acting head of the Russian embassy and issued a categorical protest regarding the statements from the Russian side.
