Although electric scooter riders are required to protect themselves and wear helmets, far from everyone follows these rules. As noted by police officers organizing preventive raids, about a third of scooter riders enjoying the summer forget their helmets.

“The police’s goal is not only to identify violations and apply responsibility. It is equally important for us to notice and encourage those road users who show a good example every day – follow the rules, wear helmets, and care for their own and others’ safety.
The vast majority of people behave responsibly in traffic, and we want to emphasize that. However, there are still those who consciously ignore the Traffic Rules, so the police will continue to respond firmly to such violations.
Our goal is for safe behavior to become the norm, not the exception,” said Vytautas Grašys, head of the Public Order Bureau of the Police Department under the Ministry of the Interior, quoted in the Traffic Police statement.

According to insurers, scooters are rapidly gaining popularity, but the number of incidents related to them is also increasing. Some accidents could allegedly be avoided if scooter riders rode more cautiously or wore protective gear.
During this raid, the well-behaved also received attention – they were given reflectors as gifts.
In the first half of this year, police officers recorded more than 4,000 traffic rule violations committed by electric micro-mobility device and motorized bicycle riders. It is estimated that more than 3,000 offenders did not wear helmets, and more than 400 offenders were intoxicated, under the influence, or avoided inspection.
