The festival has been held since 2021, promoting ecological awareness and inviting the public to actively contribute to environmental preservation.
Throughout the day, dozens of educational, exploratory, and interactive spaces will operate in the square, where visitors can not only listen to discussions but also try out various sustainability solutions themselves.

From energy production experiments and waste sorting challenges to exploring the micro-world of the Baltic Sea, innovative technologies, and creative workshops using secondary raw materials – participants are invited to explore, learn, and act. The event will feature scientific institutions, environmental organizations, and representatives from the energy, waste management, water management, and social sectors.
“Today, sustainability is often understood as a field of complex decisions or large investments. However, it actually starts with everyday choices – how we consume, how we sort waste, how we travel, or what kind of energy we use. The ‘Savos bangos’ festival is an opportunity to meet in one place with people who create and implement these solutions, and for visitors to see that sustainability can be simple, practical, and inspiring,” says Olga Žalienė, director of the Lithuanian Sea Museum.
This year’s festival will pay special attention to renewable energy. The Lithuanian Sea Museum will invite visitors to try a new educational program “Wind Harbor,” where they can take on the role of wind farm planners and decide the best location for a wind turbine. Nearby, there will also be an educational space about renewable energy, where the green energy company “Ignitis renewables” will invite visitors to experience wind through everyday experiences – games, movement, experiments. Meanwhile, Klaipėda University, the Lithuanian Energy Institute, and other partners will invite attendees to learn about the green transformation: hydrogen energy, energy storage technologies, and more.
“We believe that the more people have the opportunity to get close to renewable energy, the better they understand the value and benefits it creates for communities. Therefore, partnerships with educational, scientific, and cultural institutions are important to us – they help open dialogue and bring renewable energy closer to people,” says Paulius Kalmantas, Communications Partner at “Ignitis renewables.”
The festival program also invites participation in two topical discussions. “Cleantech Lithuania” invites a conversation about how companies move from sustainability declarations to real actions, and in the main discussion at the Lithuanian Sea Museum, moderated by Ignas Klėjus, experts from various fields will discuss what sustainability will look like in the future and whether today’s initiatives will be effective. Festival guests will also be able to participate in a quiz.

The event atmosphere will also be created by cultural activities. In the Theater Square, the Lithuanian Sea Museum exhibition about seaside recreation “Resorts in Klaipėda until 1939: Smiltynė, Kopgalis, Melnragė, Giruliai” will be displayed, Ingaja’s musical installation “Musical postcards from the Curonian Spit” will be featured, and the day will end with her concert.
“Savos bangos” is not just a one-day celebration but a long-term initiative inviting residents, organizations, and companies to contribute to building a sustainable future through their everyday choices and actions. The event is open to everyone – both those interested in ecology and those simply looking for interesting and meaningful weekend activities.
The festival will take place on September 5 from 11 AM to 5 PM at Klaipėda Theater Square. The event is free and open to all.
