If a person terminates accumulation during the transition period – from January 1, 2026, to December 31, 2027 – their own paid contributions and investment results are transferred to a bank account without any additional fees or deductions. The state and “Sodra” contribution parts return to “Sodra” and convert into pension accounting units – this will increase the future old-age pension.

On average – one additional pension accounting unit
The average amount of state incentive and “Sodra” contributions transferred to “Sodra” when a person withdraws from accumulation in the second quarter is 2,600 euros. A total of 272 million euros were transferred to the “Sodra” reserve fund.
According to “Sodra” data, on average, one person who withdrew from accumulation in the second quarter of 2026 will gain 1.07 pension accounting units. 9 out of 10 former pension accumulation participants will receive up to 2 pension accounting units. 8% of those who withdrew will gain 2–3 additional pension accounting units, 2% will gain from 3 to 4, and more than 4 units will be additionally received by 1% of the population.
Where to find personal information?
Residents can see the total number of their accumulated pension accounting units by logging into their personal “Sodra” account.
More detailed information about how many additional accounting units a person received after withdrawing from pension accumulation can be seen by generating the updated summary REP.49.1 “Detailed information about the person’s acquired accounting units for old-age pension”.
The summary shows data for the years in which the person withdrew from accumulation – including previous periods. For example, if a person withdrew in 2019, later returned, and withdrew again in 2026, the summary will provide data for both years.
To find out the amount of “Sodra” and state contributions returned to “Sodra,” residents should generate the summary REP.11 “Accumulated pension contributions transferred to pension funds.” At the bottom, the transferred amount and the fact that the person is no longer an accumulation participant are indicated.
All summary forms are in the “About me” section of the account.
How accounting units are calculated
Funds returned to “Sodra” are converted into pension accounting units according to the same formula used annually to calculate units acquired by employees:
- One pension accounting unit is acquired when pension social insurance contributions are paid on income equal to 12 times the average monthly wage (AMW) set for that year.
- The 2026 AMW, applied to calculate the state social insurance contribution base for insured persons, is 2,312.15 euros. This means that a person earning this salary before taxes per month earns 27,745.80 euros per year (2,312.15 Eur x 12 months).
- The pension social insurance contribution rate is 8.72%. Therefore, 2,419.43 euros of pension social insurance contributions are paid annually on such a salary (27,745.80 Eur x 8.72%).
- Thus, to acquire one pension accounting unit per year, 2,419.43 euros of pension social insurance contributions must be paid.
Example. If 2,600 euros return to “Sodra,” this amount is divided by 2,419.43 euros – the person additionally acquires 1.07 pension accounting units.
Each year, a person’s old-age pension is indexed – increased, so the unit value changes when calculating the pension amount that year. The more accounting units a person has accumulated, the larger their individual pension portion will be.
How additional accounting units will affect pension size
If a person is already receiving a pension, additional pension accounting units will be evaluated by recalculating the pension for the calendar years in which they were acquired.
For example, if state and “Sodra” contributions are transferred to “Sodra” in 2026, the pension will be recalculated from 2027. If contributions return in 2027, the pension will be recalculated from 2028.
If a person retires in the same year they terminated accumulation in the second pillar, additional accounting units will be included in the pension if the request to terminate accumulation was submitted to the pension accumulation company before the first day of the month from which the pension is granted. If the request is submitted later, these accounting units will be included by recalculating the pension from January 1 of the following year.
For example, a person reaches retirement age in July 2026. If the request to terminate accumulation is submitted to the pension accumulation company by June 30, 2026, additional accounting units will be evaluated when granting the pension. If the request is submitted from July 1, 2026, to December 31, 2026, additional accounting units will be evaluated by recalculating the pension in 2027.
