“The growth in sales in April was driven by companies engaged in retail fuel sales and stores selling industrial goods,” she added.

Fuel retailers’ sales increased in April, but the growth significantly slowed down. “Compared to the same period last year, the sales volume of these companies increased by 3%,” said J. L. Pihlak, explaining that the sales revenue of these companies includes not only fuel sales but also total sales, including income from catering services and other goods and services.

In April, sales in grocery stores continued to decline, mainly due to rising food prices. Sales decreased by one percent compared to the same month last year. “Grocery sales last increased in March 2024 and have been declining for more than two years since then,” noted the statistics office representative.

In the first four months of this year, retail sales volumes increased by five percent compared to the same period last year.
