The statement says that seven of them were from the United Kingdom (UK), three from Belgium, one each from France and the USA. The last victim was a Spanish citizen.

“All 13 deceased are adults – eight women and five men,” added the state institution responsible for identifying the victims.
The fire broke out last Thursday in the picturesque southeastern province of Almeria, near the Mediterranean coast, where many foreigners live.
Flames fanned by strong winds ravaged forests and shrubs, which had dried out due to extremely high temperatures, turning picturesque rural settlements into ghost towns.
Rescue services initially found 12 bodies that were so badly burned that DNA samples were needed to identify them.

The fire, caused by a fallen power cable on the road, was one of the deadliest in Spain in recent years and destroyed about 7,000 hectares of land.
Since then, the fire has been contained, and residents have been able to return to their homes since Sunday.
In recent years, Spain has experienced longer and more frequent heat waves, with temperatures exceeding 40 degrees Celsius, creating favorable conditions for forest fires.
According to the European Forest Fire Information System, in 2025, fire destroyed more than 393,000 hectares – the most in recent Spanish history.
