44-year-old Russian basketball coach dies while having fun in the water

According to “Sport-express,” Eduard Sandler, former president and coach of the Vladivostok basketball club “Dinamo,” died under tragic circumstances.

“He died during a nighttime jet ski ride,” wrote the Russian daily.

Vladivostok1.ru, citing sources close to the team, reported that the 44-year-old coach was riding a jet ski in the Amur Bay and crashed onto a rocky shore near the yacht club.

The man suffered fatal injuries and died on the spot.

Born in Vladivostok, E. Sandler began his coaching career in 2014 with the “Spartak-Primorje” club, which played in Russia’s second-tier league.

He then led the “Sakhalin” team, which became Superleague champions in 2016, as well as the “Vostok-65” team.

In 2020, E. Sandler ran for the presidency of the Russian Basketball Federation, but Andrej Kirilenko remained the head.

In 2021, E. Sandler returned to Vladivostok, where he became the head of “Dinamo.”

With this team, he also took first place in the Superleague this year, winning the second-tier league with three different teams.

“Dinamo” advanced to the United VTB League championships, which continue despite Russia’s war in Ukraine. E. Sandler was to continue leading the team preparing for its debut in the top league of the aggressor country.

“Sport-express” recalled that E. Sandler was also known for several scandals.

Last spring, former “Dinamo-Vladivostok” 19-year-old footballer Anton Muchin accused the basketball coach of beating him after a conflict in the sauna.
