“However, we still have many hotspots, flames in many places, so we are very vigilant this morning,” he said.
The fire in the Var region broke out on Tuesday and spread unexpectedly quickly, forcing the evacuation of about 400 people and devastating an area of 2.55 thousand hectares.
Nearly 1,000 firefighters and specialized water-carrying aircraft worked to contain the fire in the region, located along France’s Mediterranean coast between Marseille and Nice.

According to the French meteorological service “Meteo-France”, very dry weather in the area created an extremely high risk of forest fires.
Due to recurring heatwaves and drought, the 2026 forest fire season started earlier than usual, and in recent weeks, firefighters across France have been battling fire outbreaks almost daily.
