The found silver valuables were placed in a clay pot, and its lid was replaced by an old silver brooch.

An expert from the National Cultural Heritage Board reveals that the valuable find was discovered in the Augšdaugava municipality by a treasure hunter from Lithuania. The young man found the clay pot with valuable contents about one and a half kilometers from the Latvian-Lithuanian border, on the Latvian side. After discovering the find, the Lithuanian handed it over to the Daugavpils State Police.

A representative of the Cultural Heritage Board reveals that the mid-17th century treasure contained a total of 840 silver coins, one brooch, two rings, and the pot in which all of this was placed.

Since the treasure was found on private land, these valuables belong to the landowner, as the treasure hunter from Lithuania did not have an agreement with the landowner regarding the search work. However, the landowner has not been found to this day. It is only known that he has gone abroad to earn money. So it turns out that a person diligently earning abroad has a treasure literally lying at their feet at home.

The found silver coins and rings could be worth at least 3000 euros on the market. However, experts emphasize that the cultural and historical value of the found treasures is much greater than their price in euros.
