Two drug distribution points liquidated in Vilnius – distributors and buyers detained

The operation was carried out by officers of the Vilnius County VPK Criminal Police Organized Crime Investigation Department together with officers of the second and third police commissariats of Vilnius city and prosecutors of the Vilnius District Prosecutor’s Office.

In a pre-trial investigation carried out at the second police commissariat of Vilnius city, two drug buyers and three persons suspected of organizing and distributing drugs were detained.

In another investigation carried out by the third police commissariat of Vilnius city, two more drug buyers and two persons suspected of organizing and distributing drugs were detained.

During searches of the suspects’ residences and auxiliary premises, officers found and seized a very large quantity of suspected narcotic substances. Money, possibly obtained from drug trafficking, tools for weighing and packaging narcotics, and other items significant to the investigations were also discovered.

Persons suspected of drug distribution have been charged and the strictest preventive measure – detention for three months – has been imposed. Buyers have been assigned milder preventive measures.

Both pre-trial investigations are ongoing. Officers aim to identify all persons who may have contributed to these criminal activities.

Illegal possession of narcotic or psychotropic substances with the intent to distribute, depending on the quantity determined by expert examination, may result in imprisonment from two to fifteen years.

The police emphasize that carfentanil is an extremely potent synthetic opioid, dangerous even in very small amounts. It can cause severe poisoning and death.

Officers also thank the residents of Markučiai who noticed possible criminal activities and reported them to law enforcement.
