19-year-old D. Yegorova, after losing a point, angrily threw her racket out of bounds. It hit a tournament referee who was near the court, but despite the incident, the Russian was not disqualified and continued the match.
The incident occurred in the first set when D. Yegorova was leading 4:3. M. Capurro immediately demanded that her opponent be disqualified, stating that according to the current rules, a player whose thrown equipment injures or obstructs another person may be removed from the tournament.
However, the referee decided to issue only a warning, reasoning that the hit was unintentional and did not cause serious consequences. After a break of about five minutes, the match resumed, and D. Yegorova eventually won 6:4, 6:4.
After the match, M. Capurro, who reacted very emotionally, stated on social media that she was shocked by the referee’s decision.

The Argentinian stated that she had never seen a similar situation in her career, and in such cases, direct disqualification is usually imposed. She also announced her intention to file an official complaint with the “World Tennis” organization, which administers tournaments in this series.
“She lost the point, threw the racket out of bounds, and hit a person directly. In any tournament, that would be an immediate disqualification,” M. Capurro wrote.
