The Palanga Fire and Rescue Service received an anxious report late last Saturday afternoon (September 5).

At about 15:33, firefighters were called to Būtingė.

A person who noticed a suspicious object near the Baltic Sea called the emergency services number 112.

A metal container was found behind the settlement Kuršių takas – in the dunes.

The person was alarmed because it was marked with stickers saying “flammable and active”.

A chemical smell could also be detected.

Upon arrival at the site, a half-empty 25-liter metal container with paint was found in the dunes by the sea.

After examining the container and determining that the find posed no danger, the firefighters handed it over to the employees of the company “Palangos komunalinis ūkis”.
