This news was responded to by the Minister of Social Security and Labour, Inga Ruginienė.
“What the Vilnius city municipality is doing now is deplorable and cynical.
While publicly talking about social dialogue and employee involvement, in reality, manipulations are being taken so that employee representatives will not be present on the boards of municipal companies for another four years.
October 29 is deliberately chosen – just a few days before the new legal regulation comes into force. The goal is obvious: to manage to form boards so that the employees’ voice does not appear there,” I. Ruginienė wrote on social media.
According to the minister, this is a complete disregard of the principles of social dialogue and a huge disrespect for employees.
“The employees’ voice is not an inconvenience that can be bypassed with machinations. It must be heard, not thrown into the trash.
Politicians representing TS-LKD should not only talk about respect for the employee but finally start practicing it,” said I. Ruginienė.
In June, the Seimas adopted amendments to the Labour Code, according to which employee representatives must appear on the boards of state and municipal companies. The new regulation comes into force on November 1, 2026.
