The report about explosives found in Pilioniai village reached the General Emergency Center at 17:33. It was informed that employees of a company conducting excavation work near a railway crossing found something resembling an explosive. The company manager reported the find to the General Emergency Center.
Officers arriving at the scene determined that various types of World War II-era explosives were found in the fields.
After the “Shield” plan was implemented, the area was fenced off and guarded. Firefighters stood by at the site until the bomb disposal experts arrived.
According to the Kaunas County Chief Police Commissariat, some explosives had not yet been unearthed, so for safety reasons, it was decided to postpone the neutralization work to the next day. The site was guarded overnight by police officers to prevent unauthorized persons from entering the area.
On Wednesday, bomb disposal experts continued their work and investigated how many and what types of explosives might still be underground.
Such finds are not the first in the Kėdainiai district. Specialists remind that if you find an object resembling an explosive, you must not touch or try to move it. The find must be reported immediately by calling the emergency number 112.
