„A new sport has appeared in Vilnius: who is faster – the driver trying to pay for parking, or the system managing to record that he has not yet paid?
You parked the car. You got out. You look for a parking meter or open the app, enter the car number. Two or three minutes have passed – and it may already be too late. This is not normal.
Parking fees should be a traffic regulation measure, not a way to catch people for every mistake. The city is not a private parking company, and a Vilnius resident or guest is not a walking wallet.
If a person stands for an hour and maliciously does not pay – let’s control that. But if he just parked the car and is going to pay, what traffic problem do we solve by “catching” him after a couple of minutes?“ – writes Vydūnas Sadauskas.
