Many of us have skin type one or two, so direct Sun rays without additional protection for a longer time (>15–30 min.) are dangerous for us.

In Lithuania, the UVI ranges from 1 (low) to 8 (very high). The highest values are recorded in May, June, and July (between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m.). Today the index can reach up to 5–6, so those with skin type I (very fair, freckled skin) should be especially careful.

Classification of UV index values and protection levels:

1–2 – UVI low, protection level minimal (a hat may be worn);

3–5 – UVI moderate, protection – hat, sunglasses, sunscreen with sun protection factor (SPF) of at least 20;

6–7 – UVI high, protection – as listed above, and stay in the shade between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m.;

8–10 – UVI very high, better not to go outside at all (between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m.).
