This is already the second such result in a row – in the previous round, Liverpool played with Newcastle with the same score.
Nottingham Forest took the lead in the 24th minute when, after a counterattack, Dan Ndoye calmly sent the ball past Alisson.
Liverpool seemed to equalize at the end of the first half – Florian Wirtz scored, but the goal was disallowed for offside. Moreover, Nottingham Forest could have ended the first half with a bigger advantage, but Alisson made a fantastic save, directing the ball onto the crossbar.
After the break, Liverpool finally scored a goal. In the 60th minute, Alexander Isak took advantage of Cody Gakpo’s pass and sent the ball into the net from a few meters away.
However, just ten minutes later, Neco Williams fell in the penalty area after contact with Alisson, and Morgan Gibbs-White converted the penalty – 1:2.
Liverpool equalized the score in the 82nd minute with a wonderful goal by Víctor Muñoz – the 23-year-old Liverpool newcomer received the ball from F. Wirtz, quickly turned, and sent the ball into the net from the edge of the penalty area off the crossbar. This is V. Muñoz’s first goal for Liverpool.
Nottingham Forest was very close to winning at Anfield Stadium for the third year in a row – they won here 1:0 in 2024 and even 3:0 last season.
