Lithuanians prepare for one of the most spectacular celestial events: some will watch at home, others will go to Spain

On August 12, a total solar eclipse will be visible in parts of Europe. Although in Lithuania the Moon will cover most of the Sun’s disk, the host of the popular science show “Mokslo sriuba,” Ignas Kančys, decided to go where the total eclipse phase will be visible – to Spain.

Tickets were purchased by I. Kančys together with colleagues and friends back in winter. The flight to Madrid cost 91.99 euros per person, and the return trip to Vilnius – 108.97 euros. Other travel expenses were also considerable: 295.62 euros were paid for three nights’ accommodation for four people, and car rental cost 388.44 euros.

“I recently saw that car rental in Madrid on August 12 is very expensive. We definitely overpaid quite a bit. I think even more tourists from other European countries will arrive, so car rental prices will rise further,” I. Kančys told 15min.

The total solar eclipse will be visible not only in Spain but also in other locations, such as Iceland. However, according to I. Kančys, when choosing the travel destination, it was important to consider the weather conditions.
