During one incident, after detecting a breach of the physical barrier, it was determined that 39 individuals who had crossed into Latvian territory quickly fled deeper into the country. A Lithuanian cynologist with the service dog Chico and a Latvian officer who arrived at the scene immediately began the search.

The four-legged helper quickly detected the tracks left by the violators and led the border guards deep into the forest. The intense pursuit took place under very unfavorable conditions – the officers had to make their way through swampy marshes and difficult-to-pass forest masses.
After about two kilometers, the observed group of violators dispersed.
After the border guards detained the first 4 individuals, a Latvian officer checking the adjacent area found and detained another 3 fugitives. After handing them over to colleagues, the dog found a new trail again – trudging through treacherous marshes for about three more kilometers, it was possible to find and, with the help of the service dog, detain several more violators attempting to flee. A drone used for reconnaissance of hard-to-reach areas helped spot 3 more individuals from the air, and after checking another marshy section and tracking the trail for 2.5 kilometers, the last 4 fugitives were detained.

During the service, video surveillance cameras observed individuals climbing over the physical barrier and fleeing deeper into Latvian territory. A Lithuanian border guard cynologist with the Belgian Shepherd service dog Argo, who arrived at the scene urgently, immediately detected the fugitives’ tracks. The pursuit continued for more than 3 kilometers through wooded and marshy areas until the group of violators was caught and detained. During the operation, 16 individuals were detained.
All detainees were handed over to Latvian officers, who are carrying out further procedural actions.
