The 26-year-old footballer introduced himself to the fans of “Kauno Žalgiris” by communicating with the club’s communications team and gave his first interview to Žalgiris.lt.

“I am happy to join the champions’ club because I want to fight for titles and play in Europe. Kaunas is a very beautiful city, and the club’s infrastructure is wonderful,” shared the footballer about his first impressions.

After a successful season in Bosnia and Herzegovina, L. Krekovičius had offers from several European football clubs, and the choice of the Lithuanian champions was influenced by head coach Željko Sopičius.

“The main advantage is the coach. He called me and said he wanted to see me in his team, and I no longer thought about offers from other teams. It was also important that the club is a champion and plays in the UEFA Champions League qualifiers. This is a great opportunity for me, and I want to contribute to the team’s success,” said the footballer who grew up in the Split “Hajduk” system.

“I would say last season was good, but it could have been even better because there were many situations where very little was missing to score a goal. That’s football, and you have to look forward. Bosnia surprised me because there are teams playing very good football there. The league level is excellent, and the pitches are wonderful,” said the new Žalgiris player.

At the “Posušje” club, L. Krekovičius had to play alongside former Žalgiris player Dejan Kerkez, who became the Lithuanian champion last year.

“To be honest, I did not talk about it before signing the contract. I only told him when everything was official; I don’t like to talk beforehand. He spoke only good words about the club and the people working there. I was able to see that for myself,” revealed the footballer wearing the number 9 jersey.

L. Krekovičius stated that he came to Kaunas with very clear goals and is ready to fight for trophies.

“I have the same goals as the club. To win the cup, win the league, and play in Europe. We should not set lower goals – our goals must be the highest. In training, I see a lot of quality, a lot of experience, and I think we can achieve great things,” said L. Krekovičius.
