„Kauno Žalgiris“ has secured second place in the Lithuanian championship.
The team defending the national champions title defeated Telšių „Džiugas“ 5:0 at home on Sunday, who until then had one point less but were tied in goals at the Darius and Girėnas stadium.

Although the hosts controlled the ball only 44% of the time, they scored goals: Gratas Sirgėdas (13 min.), Anthony Kalikas (36 min.), Motiejus Burba (48), Gabrielis Debeljuhas (56) and Renanas Oliveira (77 min.) marked themselves with accurate shots for the hosts.
„Kauno Žalgiris“ has reduced the gap to the league leaders Marijampolės „Sūduva“ in the Top League to six points, who on Sunday snatched a victory away against Vilnius district „TransInvest“ and have played one more match than the Kaunas team.
Leading with 48 points, „Sūduva“ will play away against „Kauno Žalgiris“ on September 9, and at home against Vilnius „Žalgiris“ on September 13.
This club rose from sixth place to third after defeating the league outsiders „Šiauliai“ 1:0 at the „Žalgiris“ stadium.

Šiauliai unexpectedly resisted with the help of goalkeeper Vilius Šivickas, but in the 92nd minute – the second of three added by the referee – Danny Koy Lupano saved „Žalgiris“.
The defender from Belgium, who found himself near the opponent’s goal, jumped high and after a pass from Dominik Franke headed the ball into the goal.
This shot allowed „Žalgiris“ to overtake three teams immediately: Gargždų „Banga“, „Džiugas“ and „TransInvest“.
