Kaunas court delivered a verdict on the extremely brutal injury of a cohabitant with an axe: struck at least 11 times

As reported by the General Prosecutor’s Office of the Republic of Lithuania, according to criminal case data, on June 16 last year in Kaunas, during a conflict in an apartment, V.Kšivickas, being intoxicated, deliberately struck his partner with an axe at least 11 times in various parts of her body in front of the minor son of his partner.

The woman suffered serious health damage due to the injuries sustained.

The Kaunas District Court, after examining the criminal case, on August 24 this year found V.Kšivickas guilty of the criminal offense attributed to him, as provided for in Article 135, Part 2, Points 3 and 6 of the Criminal Code, and sentenced him to a combined imprisonment of 7 years and 1 month, as requested by the prosecutor.

V.Kšivickas was also recognized as a recidivist and civil claims were satisfied.

The pre-trial investigation was led and the public prosecution in court was maintained by prosecutors of the First Criminal Prosecution Division of the Kaunas District Prosecutor’s Office. The investigation was conducted by officers of the Criminal Police Serious Crime Investigation Department of the Kaunas County Chief Police Commissariat.

The verdict has not yet come into force and may be appealed to the Lithuanian Court of Appeal within 20 days of its announcement.
