Reader Justinas's photo/Situation in Kaunas “Regitra”

“I am standing at the Kaunas Regitra branch, I want to re-register a car after leasing. I have to do this within 5 days, the queue is not moving at all, half an hour has passed and only 2 people have moved. There are 14 service windows open, but for some reason only 2 people are working. And there are about 30 people in the queue. Question: can’t they open all the reception windows and thus manage the queue?” – complains Justas.

As soon as we received the reader’s letter, we informed the representatives of “Regitra” about the situation.

In the meantime, Justinas himself managed to get faster service:

“It’s always like that there. When I raised this issue, someone from the staff brought a priority slip. But this is not a normal situation.”

The number at the window is not always displayed

We sincerely understand that people want to receive service as quickly as possible, so we always encourage customers to take advantage of the opportunity not to wait in line and to perform the desired services online if possible, or to register online for the most convenient visit time and not wait in line.

It is likely that in this case someone from the staff went out to perform the vehicle identity verification. At that time, the employee is serving a customer, but their number is not displayed at the specific window while performing this procedure, and since the employee is working with another customer at their vehicle, they are not at the window, so the customer might have thought that no one was working.

Registration of leased vehicles

The customer mentioned that the car was purchased with a lease. In some cases, documents can also be handled conveniently and quickly online.

First, an end-of-lease agreement must be concluded with the bank or leasing company. Then both parties should apply to “Regitra” within 5 working days to declare the change of ownership.

After the bank declares the transfer of ownership, a new registration certificate is issued to the person who has paid off the lease. If the vehicle is intended to participate in public traffic, it is very important not to forget to complete the second step – to apply for vehicle registration in the name of the new owner within 10 calendar days. Otherwise, it will be automatically deregistered and participation in public traffic with it will be prohibited.

The new owner can quickly and easily register the vehicle in their name online by selecting the service “I have paid off the lease and want to register the vehicle in my name”.
