A new parking lot installed at 35 Laukininkų Street apartment building has sparked outrage among nearby residents.

People contacted the municipality to find out why the new parking lot was installed right next to the old basketball court.
“The work is clearly nearing completion, but the remains of the old basketball court and the basketball hoop are left next to it. Is this really how the area’s landscaping is planned to be finished? A new, organized parking lot, and right next to it – an old court where children continue to play basketball. Who will be responsible for damaged cars in such a case?
Balls will be hit directly into the vehicles parked nearby. Does the municipality expect residents to simply accept dents, broken headlights, or other car damages?” – residents ask in a complaint addressed to the municipality.
They also emphasize that the old basketball court, which has not been repaired for many years, raises concerns about children’s safety.

“This situation seems simply absurd: money is invested in a new parking lot, but an object is left next to it that not only spoils the entire landscaped area’s appearance but can also cause real damage to residents’ property and be a cause of accidents,” residents complain.
Responding to the outrage of Klaipėda residents, Inga Kubilienė, head of the Klaipėda Municipality City Management Department, advises the apartment building administrator to officially contact the municipality.
“During the implementation of the parking space expansion program, construction works related to the installation of parking spaces are carried out. The project scope includes the renewal or installation of stormwater drainage networks, street asphalting, sidewalk installation, and lighting.
Apartment building administrators, who represent residents’ interests, can contact the municipality regarding the renewal of unsafe parking lots or the removal of stands, as additional structures are not renewed during parking expansion construction,” comments I. Kubilienė.
