The site is planned on an empty land plot at Lakštučių Street 1, which borders Nemuno and Minijos streets.

The municipality issued the building permit on August 17.
In addition to a large-scale collection site of 5.5 thousand square meters, the plot will also have a reuse center for items about 3.5 times smaller, with spaces planned for sorting, cleaning, minor repairs, displaying, and exchanging brought items.
“Residents will be able to bring unused but still suitable items, and others can take them for free,” previously announced the Klaipėda Regional Waste Management Center planning the construction.
A warehouse with facilities for employees will also be built on the plot.
About 2 thousand tons of waste can be collected annually at the new site.
Currently, there are three such sites operating in Klaipėda, located on Šiaurės Avenue, Tilžės, and Plieno streets. Registered residents of Klaipėda can bring large waste items to them for free, such as old furniture, construction debris from repairs, old tires, and more.

The Waste Management Center states that about 9 thousand tons of waste are delivered to these sites annually by Klaipėda residents.
“Considering the increasing waste flows and the more frequent queues at existing sites, it was decided to expand and improve the waste management infrastructure,” the center announced last year when presenting the plans for the new site to the public.
The construction of the new site is expected to cost about 3.2 million euros, with up to half of this amount funded by European Union funds, about one million allocated by the city municipality, and about 0.6 million by the waste management center itself.
The site at Lakštučių Street is planned to open by 2029.
