An operation by officers of the Economic Crimes Investigation Division of the Criminal Police of the Utena County Chief Police Commissariat was conducted on August 20. Officers from other police units also participated.

During a search of an agricultural building, contraband cigarettes of the brands „Marlboro Gold Original“, „Marlboro Touch Less Smell“, „Winston Blue“, „Kent Crystal“, „NZ Gold“ and „Minsk 5 Superslims“ were found. They were hidden among pellets and under tarpaulin covers.
In total, officers found 57,400 packs of cigarettes without Lithuanian excise stamps or with Belarusian bands. Their customs value, including taxes mandatory to pay in Lithuania, amounts to 297,596 euros. More than 3,000 euros were also seized from the suspect.
During the operation, a person suspected of illegal handling of excise goods was detained. According to police data, he had previously been convicted for a similar criminal offense.
The man has been charged and two preventive measures have been imposed. For this criminal offense, imprisonment of up to eight years is possible.
