Keegan was diagnosed with stage four cancer seven weeks ago.
According to a statement from K. Keegan’s family, he died surrounded by family members – his wife and daughters.

“He was a beloved husband, father, and grandfather,” the statement reads.
Born in 1951, K. Keegan is considered one of the best footballers in England’s history.
The footballer, who played as an attacking midfielder and forward, played for the clubs Scunthorpe United (1968-1971), Liverpool (1971-1977), Hamburger SV (1977-1980), Southampton (1980-1982), and Newcastle United (1982-1984) during his career.
With Liverpool, he won the top division of English football three times, won the UEFA Cup twice, and in 1976-1977 won the European Cup (now the UEFA Champions League), and with Hamburger SV he won the Bundesliga championship in Germany.
In 1978 and 1979, K. Keegan received the prestigious Ballon d’Or award from France Football, which at that time was given to the best European footballer.

Throughout the history of this award, only nine other footballers have won it at least twice: Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo, Michel Platini, Johan Cruyff, Marco van Basten, Franz Beckenbauer, Ronaldo, Alfredo di Stefano, and Karl-Heinz Rummenigge.
Representing the England national team from 1972 to 1982, K. Keegan scored 21 goals in 63 matches.
After ending his playing career, he worked as a coach and managed Newcastle, Fulham, and Manchester City teams. From February 1999 to October 2000, he also managed the England national team.
