Raspberry time and the last cucumbers

In mid-August, wild raspberries were already ripening in the forests. People collected them for jams, dried them, and prepared them for winter.

In gardens at that time, people hurried to pick the last cucumbers. It was believed that after August 17th, they would grow worse and might become bitter. After harvesting, the remains of garden plants were tidied up, and cucumbers were salted or pickled with onions, garlic, and other additives.

Such end-of-summer work was an important part of preparing for winter.
