Over the weekend, one person died in a fire, firefighters rescued three people from the water, but even four drowned people were pulled out.

On Friday, at 10:31 a.m., in Kupiškis district, Noriūnai eldership, Siauriai village, Beržyno street, a single-family house was on fire. When firefighters arrived, smoke was coming from the house. The house was two stories, brick, with a wooden ceiling, the roof covered with slate. At 10:43 a.m., an unconscious woman was carried out of the house, resuscitation was started, but it was unsuccessful and medics declared her dead.
The deceased was found in the bedroom on the first floor, which was heavily smoke-filled. A dead dog was also carried out of the house. The fire started in the kitchen, where household items burned, the wooden ceiling was burned through, and all rooms of the residential house were smoke-damaged. There was no smoke detector in the house. The incident is under investigation.
A generator used during filming caught fire
On Saturday night, at 12:46 a.m., in Vilnius, Kaštonų street, in the inner yard of the Lithuanian Medical Library, a Mercedes-Benz Sprinter minibus was burning with open flames. The fire started in the vehicle cabin when a generator used during filming caught fire.
The minibus burned down, the front parts of three nearby parked cars were scorched, the shelter roof and downspouts were damaged. The incident is under investigation.
That same night, at 1:42 a.m., in Šalčininkai district, Jašiūnai, a shopping center was on fire. During the fire, the rooms of the two-story building, goods inside, and an ATM were scorched and smoke-damaged; a nearby flower shop was affected. Firefighters carried out a helium balloon from the dental office. The fire alarm in the building was activated. Arson is suspected.
At 2:21 a.m. in Utena, Birutės street, a single-family house was set on fire. Upon arrival, firefighters found that one corner of the house was doused with flammable liquid, and another place was set on fire. The resident extinguished the fire before firefighters arrived. There was a smoke detector installed in the house. Arson is suspected.

A minibus also caught fire
On Sunday, at 1:05 p.m., in Vilnius, Ukmergės street, a minibus was on fire in a parking lot. The fire started in the engine compartment. A dog inside the vehicle was freed and was unharmed. Firefighters opened the hood and disconnected the battery. The engine compartment burned, and the vehicle cabin was smoke-damaged. The incident is under investigation.
At 5:14 p.m. in Lazdijai, Seinų street, a wooden one-story apartment building was burning with open flames. Firefighters removed a gas cylinder from the building and disconnected the electricity supply. Although the building had four apartments, only one was inhabited. Firefighters managed to protect a nearby memorial house, other wooden apartment buildings, farm buildings, garages, and five greenhouses. There was no smoke detector in the house. The incident is under investigation.
On Monday night, at 2:55 a.m., in Šiauliai district, Kalviškiai village, a person was injured in a fire in an apartment building. Upon arrival, the second floor of the building was filled with smoke. A conscious man was carried out of the apartment and handed over to medics. Two other residents left the building on their own. During the fire, a bed and household items in the room were scorched, and part of the floor was removed. There was no smoke detector in the house. The incident is under investigation.
Over the past three days, firefighters rushed several times to rescue people in water emergencies. On Friday, in Šakiai district, a drowning woman was rescued from a quarry; in Alytus district, a person who lost strength was brought from the Nemunas River; and in Palanga, firefighters reached a man who fell into the sea by jet ski and safely towed him to shore along with his jet ski.
Tragedy at Bebrusai Lake
Unfortunately, the weekend was not without painful accidents. On Friday, in Šilutė district, the body of a drowned man was pulled from a pond; on Saturday, drowned men were found in Ilgajis Lake in Ukmergė district and in a pond in Rutkiškiai village, Rukainiai eldership, Vilnius district; on Sunday, a woman’s body was pulled from the Širvinta River in Širvintos district.
On Sunday evening, at 10:47 p.m., in Molėtai district, Bebrusai Lake, firefighters began a search for a person after receiving a report that a person fell into the water at a bay homestead about 300 m from the shore. Firefighters and rescuers arrived with a boat and searched about 20 square meters of water. Due to the dark time of day, divers did not conduct underwater work but marked the possible incident location. The search continued today. At 8:50 a.m., near Bebrusai Lake island, 15 m from the shore and 5 m deep, the body of the drowned person was found.
