These are matches held before the start of the new season, where the winners of the previous season’s EuroLeague and EuroCup should face each other.
Such a format has been applied in football for many years, where teams that won the UEFA Champions League and Europa League in the previous season face each other before the start of each new season.
“We are trying to introduce the first version of the Super Cup. We don’t want to feel pressure, so if we are not ready for it this year, we will introduce it next year. A great arena is already interested in these matches, and we want to host this game there. If it doesn’t work out, we will postpone it for a year,” said Ch.Bueno.
If the Super Cup meeting could be held this year, it would feature Piraeus “Olympiakos”, who won the EuroLeague, and JL Bourg-en-Bresse, who triumphed in the EuroCup.
Ch.Bueno also spoke on many other topics during his conversation with “Eurohoops”.
He confirmed that at least five clubs are vying for the two vacant spots in next year’s EuroLeague – Monaco, Paris, Hapoel Jerusalem, Beşiktaş Istanbul, and PAOK Thessaloniki.

According to the head of the organization, decisions could be made as early as June 9, when the EuroLeague board meeting will take place.
The Spaniard also confirmed that Fenerbahçe Istanbul and ASVEL Villeurbanne have already officially committed to remaining in the EuroLeague, while Real Madrid has not yet done so, but Ch.Bueno hopes they will.
According to the EuroLeague head, as many as 41 clubs are applying for the EuroCup next season, and the number of teams in the tournament will expand to 32, of which 20 will have multi-year licenses.
The EuroLeague also plans to create a model whereby teams could qualify for EuroCup spots based on successful results in their domestic championships.
