As twojapogoda.pl writes, this Wednesday, September 9th, just before dawn over the eastern horizon, a very thin crescent Moon will be visible, and directly above it – the majestic Jupiter, whose diameter is 11 times larger than Earth’s.
This impressive cosmic meeting can be admired until dawn. The Moon and Jupiter will look most beautiful about 40–45 minutes before sunrise, when they will shine against the reddish-blue background of the morning twilight.
For people getting up early for school or work, this will be a truly romantic morning spectacle.
No equipment will be needed for observation. You just need to find a place with a wide, unobstructed view of the morning sky and arm yourself with patience. This phenomenon will be best seen away from city lights – there the contrast between the bright planets, the Moon, and the darkening sky will be greatest.
Will we be able to see this spectacle in Lithuania as well?
Astrophysicist Vidas Dobrovolskas has good news for Lithuanians – this spectacle will be visible in Lithuania too.
“We will be able to see this spectacle in Lithuania as well. The Moon and Jupiter will be close to each other in the sky. The Moon will not completely cover Jupiter, but rather part of it. The Moon rises after 4 a.m., so if you wait a bit, from, for example, 5 a.m., Jupiter and the Moon will be much higher and easier to see in the sky,” the astrophysicist told 15min.

According to him, the meeting of Jupiter and the Moon will be equally well visible in all regions of Lithuania.
“In this case, it does not matter which region we are in, we will be able to observe this spectacle. In fact, it would be equally visible throughout Europe, so the location in Lithuania does not matter at all,” he reported.
However, as the astrophysicist emphasized, good weather is important. And according to him, it will be clear throughout Lithuania, with possibly more clouds in the northern part. So it is likely that most people will be able to see this spectacle.
When asked if the event can be observed without any equipment, the scientist confirmed that it can.
“That will be enough to see the Moon and Jupiter next to each other. The spectacle will be really bright and attract attention, and those who have optical devices will be able to look through them as well. But for those wanting to observe this event through a telescope, both objects will not fit into its field of view at the same time. So it is better to use binoculars. But you can also just enjoy it with the naked eye,” V. Dobrovolskas shared his thoughts.
