About the Lithuanian’s personal agreement with “Celtic,” which would have been valid until July 2030, wrote also the influential Italian journalist Nicolo Schira.
How much the Scots would have raised the salary for G. Gineitis himself is not written, but in Italy, the Lithuanian earns about 1.5 million euros per season (with bonuses – up to 1.85 million euros), and his contract is valid until the summer of 2029.

The latest reports stated that “Torino” – initially demanding as much as 15 million euros for the 22-year-old Lithuanian – would eventually “agree to somewhat less than 10 million, adding a percentage from a future sale.”
- G. Gineitis’s transfer to “Celtic” would have become a record for Lithuania.
- So far, the highest transfer fee paid for a Lithuanian was in 2010 – Moscow’s “Dynamo” club then paid 4.2 million euros for Edgaras Česnauskis.
- In 2008, Genoa’s “Sampdoria” paid 3.5 million euros for Marius Stankevičius, and in 2002 Edgaras Jankauskas cost “Porto” 2.4 million euros.
Moreover, “Torino” took care of a possible replacement for G. Gineitis – acquiring two left-footed midfielders (Italian Rolando Mandragora from “Fiorentina” and Portuguese Daniel Bragança from Lisbon’s “Sporting”).
So why did G. Gineitis’s transfer to Scotland not happen after all?
