On cool days, the temperature of the car windows is lower than the temperature of the heated cabin air. At that time, moisture accumulates inside the cabin, released by passengers’ breathing, and also comes from wet clothes, shoes, rain, and snow.
When moist air comes into contact with cold glass, water vapor begins to condense on its surface. As a result, the glass becomes covered with a characteristic layer of fog that limits visibility.

How can a potato help prevent window fogging?
This amateur method is very simple. First, you need to thoroughly wash a raw potato and cut it in half. Rub the cut side on the previously cleaned glass. However, it is important not to leave a visible layer of potato juice on it.
“After the procedure, the glass should be polished with a clean microfiber cloth to avoid streaks. The potato leaves a small amount of starch on the surface, which should reduce the accumulation of tiny water droplets that cause fogging. As a result, the glass may fog less. However, caution is advised, as improper polishing of the glass can have the opposite effect and worsen visibility on the road,” the publication adds.
Nevertheless, experts emphasize that this method only works on the glass surface and will not solve the problem of excessive moisture inside the cabin. If there is water on the car floor, wet upholstery, or snow and rain constantly entering the cabin, condensation may continue to accumulate.
Therefore, this method should be considered only as an additional protective measure, not a way to dry the entire car interior.
