„Challenger“ tournament in Italy – Vilius Gaubas’s failure already in the first round

In the first round of the men’s singles competition starting in Perugia, V. Gaubas lost to Kazakhstan’s Timofey Skatov (ATP-189) with a score of 6:4, 4:6, 2:6.

The 21-year-old tennis player from Šiauliai lost last week in the final qualifying round of the Roland Garros, but entered the main tournament with a lucky loser status, and then lost 4:6, 2:6, 6:2, 5:7 to Luca Van Assche (ATP-100) from France.

Seeded eighth in Italy, V. Gaubas will receive a prize of 2045 euros for the loss, but will not be able to add to his ATP ranking points.

Currently, Vilius is projected to be ranked 129th in the ATP rankings. The Lithuanian does not plan to withdraw from the circuit anytime soon – next week he will compete in the Challenger tournament in Lyon, France.
