G. Rainys was an economist, doctor of social sciences, who for a time served as deputy minister of economy, and was also one of the leaders of various business organizations.

Representatives of the business community who knew him say that Lithuania lost not only a top-level economist but also a person capable of uniting different opinions, calmly seeking compromises, and earning his authority not by loud statements but by deeds.

“He represented the generation of civil servants who essentially created the economic development model of our state. I can confidently call him an old-school statesman – a person who spoke less but worked more,” said Andrius Romanovskis, president of the Lithuanian Business Confederation, to 15min.
The president of the Lithuanian Confederation of Industrialists, Vidmantas Janulevičius, added that G. Rainys was one of the most important figures in the organization for many years.
