As reported by „Delfi“, border guards detected a tunnel being dug under the state border and set up an ambush. When the first border violators emerged from underground, four officers detained and handcuffed them. But then about 20 more migrants came out of the tunnel and attacked the border guards. The latter had to flee to save themselves.
Illegal migrants, including those handcuffed, escaped back to Belarus.
On July 29, VSAT only reported that border guards had filled in another tunnel being dug by migrants, but did not disclose the migrants who appeared on Lithuanian territory or the threat posed to the officers.
At the same time, Lazdijai politician Vilma Danauskienė claims that only four officers were attacked by 20 migrants armed with sticks and stones.
VSAT representative Lina Laurinaitytė-Grigienė told 15min that a pre-trial investigation was initiated only for illegal border crossing, but not for the attack on officers.
“Information was published to the extent confirmed by the prosecutor’s office. We cannot comment further at this time – if permission is granted, we will comment in more detail and then inform you,” said the VSAT representative.
