Residents are sharing impressive images from Antanavas on social media. It was captured how a tornado’s vortex moves through the settlement, and after the natural disaster, broken and uprooted trees, damaged buildings are visible:

During Friday’s storms, a tornado was recorded in Antanavas, located in Kazlų Rūda municipality, which caused significant damage. According to “Orai ir klimatas Lietuvoje”, two of the three tornadoes recorded on Friday – in Kaunas and Antanavas – left significant consequences.
It is reported that the tornado damaged buildings, broke trees, and devastated the environment. According to the extent of the damage, this phenomenon is preliminarily estimated to be up to category IF1.5.
IF1.5 – this is a tornado that can already cause significant damage to homes, farms, and trees.

Meteorologists note that a warming climate increases the potential for strong storms and dangerous atmospheric phenomena.
According to them, the frequency and intensity of such phenomena are determined not by deforestation or its absence in a specific area, but by favorable conditions and accumulated energy forming in the atmosphere.
