Viktorija, how did you decide to educate the public about eating disorders?
I experienced eating disorders in my environment and realized that their symptoms have a strong impact not only on patients but also on their loved ones. The book – a practical guide “How to help a loved one suffering from eating disorders”, based on the globally recognized Maudsley method, provides specific practical tools and techniques that will help not only understand the disease and the patient’s inner world but also provide them with strong support while maintaining emotional health. Recent international and local epidemiological studies show that approximately 1 in 11 people, or about 9% of the world’s population, encounter clinical criteria for eating disorders during their lifetime. And here I am talking not only about anorexia nervosa or bulimia but also about binge eating disorder. It is currently diagnosed more often than anorexia and bulimia combined.
