„Winter in Ukraine could become catastrophic“: Tusk warns about new Russian tactics

This was stated by the Prime Minister of Poland, Donald Tusk, reports “Polskie Radio”. He noted that there has been one very negative change – the Russians have massively started using a new type of unmanned aerial vehicles – jet drones, which move at a much higher speed and fly at a greater altitude before striking targets.

“Recently, 27 thousand people die or are injured every month. Unfortunately, this is a war record in the saddest sense. If this trend continues, winter in Ukraine could indeed become catastrophic,” said D. Tusk.

He noted that few are prepared to effectively resist this type of threat, including Poland.

D. Tusk also emphasized that Moscow’s goal is to destroy Ukraine’s economy and logistics on as large a scale as possible.

“So far – Ukraine’s,” said the Polish Prime Minister.

According to him, continuous, very frequent, and intense attacks are expected against six major Ukrainian cities. During these, various types of stockpiles, whose contents are crucial for the country’s defense, as well as railway infrastructure, would allegedly be destroyed.

Tusk added that this creates a real risk that drones or missiles could enter the territory of one or several NATO countries and even cause damage.

“However, the official version will be that it was a coincidence and there is no reason to take any retaliatory NATO actions,” speculated the Polish Prime Minister.

Tusk on negotiations with Russia

Speaking about peace negotiations, D. Tusk stated that Russia is not ready to cease fire if it would mean not the capitulation of Ukraine:

“Russia is not ready for serious negotiations on a ceasefire, let alone peace, without the actual capitulation of Ukraine.”

D. Tusk added that, according to his information, Russia is not interested in serious negotiations at least until the end of winter. He said that the Kremlin is convinced that winter will be “tragically critical” for Ukraine due to Russia’s plans to block supplies and border crossing points, destroy road and railway routes.

How Ukraine will survive the winter

According to Volodymyr Zelensky, there may be two main scenarios for Ukraine in winter: negotiations with Russia or further escalation of the war. The president has also spoken about the risk of new mobilization in Russia.

War expert Markus Reisner believes that Russia may try to use winter to increase pressure on Ukraine, among other things, by striking energy and critical infrastructure.

The United Nations also warn of serious humanitarian risks if Russian attacks in winter cause large-scale disruptions in electricity and water supply.
