On Friday, an explosion thundered near Moldova’s capital, Chișinău. This incident, during which no people were reported injured and no damage was done, “is yet another new and serious consequence of Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine,” said the Moldovan Ministry of Foreign Affairs in a statement on Saturday.

The ministry added that “any unauthorized entry into Moldovan airspace is unacceptable” and that it “is a gross violation of our country’s sovereignty.”
The explosion occurred on Friday in the village of Colonita near Chișinău. The police reported on the social network Facebook that drone debris was found near the explosion site.
The authorities did not specify the suspected origin of the drone. However, in recent months, there have been increasing reports of drone incursions in Eastern European countries, linked to the war Russia started in Ukraine in 2022.

Moldovan border police reported that several unidentified aircraft entered the country’s airspace in the southeast on Saturday, and one of them crashed in Ukrainian territory.
Last week, Moldova closed its airspace after a Russian drone flying from Ukraine was detected. Because of this, a plane carrying Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, who had finished his visit to Moldova, was delayed from taking off from Chișinău.
