In Palanga, the observation wheel spins half-empty off-season, adult ticket – cheaper than in Kaunas

From September 16, the ticket price in Palanga has been reduced from 15 to 10 euros and will remain so until the summer season. Adults and children from 4 to 12 years old will pay the same. A family ticket for two adults and two children costs 35 euros, with three children – 40 euros.

The Ferris wheel operator explained that the wheel makes three rotations per ticket, and once at the very top it stops briefly.

How much will it cost in Kaunas?

The Kaunas City Council set the Ferris wheel prices on July 14. An adult ticket from 16 years old will cost 12 euros, children from 4 to 15 years old, students, seniors, and persons with disabilities – 8 euros. A family ticket for two adults and two children will cost 35 euros, with three children – 39 euros. Renting a VIP cabin for one or two people with sparkling wine – 50 euros, an additional person ticket in such a cabin – 25 euros.

Thus, an adult ticket in Kaunas will be 2 euros more expensive than in Palanga off-season, a child’s ticket – 2 euros cheaper, and family tickets differ by one euro or not at all.

When the council approved the prices, the location of the wheel had not yet been officially announced. “The location is still being considered,” said Aušrinė Kustienė, head of the Investment and Projects Department, at the meeting. As the portal wrote, in May the municipality had already signed a design contract for pedestrian paths for the Ferris wheel on Nemunas Island, and in June “Kaunas IN” signed a contract for the production of the wheel’s sign “Sky View.”

The question no one answered

The portal “Kas vyksta Kaune” has been monitoring the construction process on Nemunas Island from the very beginning. The municipality has not yet provided the project documents for the paths, and the portal has appealed its refusal to the Lithuanian Administrative Disputes Commission.

The main question that neither the municipality nor the inspecting authorities have answered remains the same: who ordered the 52 bored piles installed under the Ferris wheel, how much their installation cost, and how much it cost the city budget. No contract for these works has been made public so far. The only public contract signed by “Kauno švara” and “Autokausta” covers only the path surfaces for 17.4 thousand euros.

The Kaunas Ferris wheel, costing 4.6 million euros including VAT, was purchased by the municipal institution “Kaunas IN.” The 45-meter-high structure with 32 gondolas is being installed on Nemunas Island.
