According to the organizers, this year the Kaunas Book Fair aims to create a space where it will be possible not only to purchase books but also to bring together the literary community – publishers, authors, librarians, teachers, young readers, families.
“Kaunas has always been a city where people value knowledge, books, and meaningful time together. We are glad that the Kaunas Book Fair will for the second time bring together thousands of Kaunas residents and city guests so that they can discover inspiring authors and interesting conversations here. I believe that everyone will take away not only a new book from this event but also new ideas and meaningful experiences,” says Kaunas Mayor Visvaldas Matijošaitis.
According to the organizers, one of the most prominent innovations of the fair is a huge Lithuanian libraries space, named the “Library Forum,” where readers will be able to communicate with libraries from different regions of the country.
The library program includes dozens of educational activities, exhibitions, and interactive events, as well as a forum for reading club moderators called “Open Reading Club,” which will bring together the library community from all over Lithuania.
One of the more prominent themes of this year’s fair is Lithuanian history. The program includes presentations of the latest historical books and discussions about turning points in the country’s history, personal fates, and the memory of cities.

The Lithuanian National Martynas Mažvydas Library will also participate in the Kaunas Book Fair. It will present books published by the Science and Encyclopaedia Publishing Centre and invite people to meetings with historians, authors, and cultural researchers.
A special space will also be created for young readers; children and school students will be able to participate in literary quizzes here. The organizers hope that this program will help engage teenagers more in the world of reading and show them that literature can be modern and very exciting.
The second Kaunas Book Fair will take place from September 18 to 20. Last year, the event was visited by more than 20,000 people.
