Person detained over pro-Kremlin group threats to Latvian companies

Earlier, LETA reported that on September 8, the group GCAW1984, which claimed responsibility for sabotage acts in Europe, issued a statement about threatening letters sent to Latvia, Poland, and Portugal.

It demands that companies manufacturing and supplying weapons to Ukraine cease their activities. The group threatened to stop the work of these companies “by all possible means” if the demands are not met.

In response to this ultimatum, on September 9, the VDD initiated a criminal case for threats to commit a terrorist act. On September 10, a person was detained in Riga, and searches were conducted at their residence and car.

Currently, the VDD is analyzing data carriers and other items seized during the searches, and the suspect is held in custody.

As reported, the group indicated in its statement that it targets Latvian companies “Eraser” and “Unitruck,” Polish companies “PGZ,” “WB Electronics,” “JFG Composites,” and “Nitro-Chem,” as well as the Portuguese company “Tekever.”

Earlier, this group claimed responsibility for an attempted arson in August on a company belonging to the Ukrainian drone manufacturer “Skyeton” in Slovakia.

Considering the sabotage and diversion acts organized by Russia in Latvia and other NATO and European Union countries in recent years, the VDD states that it thoroughly evaluates any information about possible threats to businesses or other objects in Latvia.

Decisions on measures to strengthen the security of these objects are made individually in each specific case, the service previously indicated.
